Laramie is in Albany County, Wyoming. The city is near the Laramie River in the Southeastern part of the state. It is to the west of Cheyenne and at the junction of Interstate 80 and U.S Route 287.
It is one of the the best cities to retire in because of low taxes, the location and several adult educational opportunities.
It is 60 miles from Fort Collins, Colorado and 113 miles from Denver. The city is a fairly small town with a population of about 30,000 but much more when the University is in session.
The city draws outdoor enthusiasts because of its beautiful location between the Snowy Range and the Laramie Range.
Laramie is a lively college town near the Medicine Bow mountains. The University of Wyoming is in the city and so is a branch of Laramie County Community College. The University is the major driver of the economy as well as several high-tech startups in the area.
There are many great neighborhoods and developments for housing options. It’s generally a safe city with a crime rate well below average making it a great place to raise a family.
The Community Recreation Center offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a full-court gymnasium, cardio equipment, an indoor playground, and regular fitness classes.
Laramie Jubilee Days is an annual event celebrating Wyoming Statehood Day and the cities Western roots with a week of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association(PRCA) event as well as a carnival, parade, and weekend street dances.
The University presents frequent concerts and recitals in the Fine Arts Concert Hall during the school year and has a Geological Museum.
In the center of town in the Ivinson Mansion, there is the Laramie Plains Museum. It is one of the region’s best historic house museums.
There are dozens of great parks in Laramie that feature many amenities to enjoy, such as a fishing pond, splash pad, bike paths and playgrounds.
Downtown offers many shops, restaurants and entertainment. For the signature sledgehammer pizza (pepperoni, Italian sausage, prosciutto, fried eggs, mozzarella and red sauce) head to the Crowbar & Grill located on Second Street.
